Two years ago, central IT at the University of Iowa embarked on a Drupal voyage with exactly two developers. After 15 years of a static HTML service offered to campus at no charge, the new service included a standard university-wide branding bar, a cost recovery charge model, centralized hosting, accessibility standards and a host of other "site owner constraints". A recipe for disaster? Hardly - two years later there are 13 developers, over 100 sites in production or underway...... and a waiting list.
This session will cover the business model, the environment at Iowa that led to this success, the plans for the future - and how to talk cost recovery to internal customers.
